Nurse Aide Training and Home Health Aide Program (NATP/HHTP)
A Certified Nurse Aide is a vital member of the health care team. Nurses Aides are involved in a wide range of responsibilities involved in the care of patients in healthcare settings. The nurse Aide performs other functions in addition to their primary function of assisting a registered nurse. They communicate effectively with the resident, observe resident responses to treatment, care for the resident’s safety and environment, and report changes to the licensed nurse. They provide personal care and comfort measures. Certified Nurse Aides assist the residents in their Activities of Daily Living (ADL).
All students must have clean CORI and Negative TB result before clinical rotation.
The Objective of the Program
The goal of this program is to educate a selected group of compassionate hard working people as Nursing Aides and Home Health Aides for the challenges in the dynamic healthcare industries. The school will educate the students strictly on the Federal and state recommended curriculum. This will not only prepare the students to have the required training standard, but the student will also come out with skills they will depend on in today’s work environment. The program has been known to expose the students to careers in the health care industry such as careers in nursing, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.
The program aims at taking prospective students through the principles and practice of nurse assisting. The program will be taught in two sections:
- The first section of the program will be a classroom lecture combined with laboratory training. This section is designed to expose the students to the theoretical aspect of the program and furnish them with an insight into what the students will expect in the clinical aspect of the training. The section will be taught by an experienced Registered Nurse.
- The second section of the program is the clinical section. This section is designed to introduce the students to the practical aspect of the training. This section will be conducted in a long-term care facility and the students will have the opportunity to practice what they have been taught in the classroom. They will be in contact with the patients and have hands on what they have learned in the previous section. At the end of this clinical section, the student will be ready with confidence to sit and pass the state certification examination.
Certificate of Completion
The students will be able to demonstrate and understand the Activities of Daily Living of the residents while at the same time being mindful of the privacy of the residents. The students who demonstrate the above understanding and pass all the classroom and clinical evaluation will be awarded a certificate of completion as an indication that the student has successfully completed a Nurse Aide Training program and will be eligible to take the MA CNA Certification Examination.
